Artwork Setup

For customers who are not familiar with creating artwork, we have created this guide to make sure your designs can be processed and printed as quickly and as accurately as possible.

When creating your design canvas, the most important thing to remember is that your artwork should be setup at an equal proportion to the print you are ordering. For example, if your order is for a banner with a 3:1 proportion, your artwork should match or be as close as possible to this.

Adjusting Artwork Scale for Optimal Filesize and Proofing

When preparing your artwork, it’s often beneficial to work with a reduced scale, such as half-scale or quarter-scale. This approach helps minimize the file size. If your design dimensions exceed 5 metres in any direction, it’s advisable to scale down. Adobe software and PDFs are excellent choices as they inherently support a maximum size of 5080mm for both width and height. Conversely, some programs like Adobe Illustrator allow for larger canvases, which can lead to complications when we process your artwork for proofing purposes. Hence, it’s best to avoid using them.

Recommended Scale and Canvas Sizes
ScaleArtwork Canvas Size
100% (Full) Scale5000mm × 1000mm
50% (Half) Scale2500mm × 500mm
25% (Quarter) Scale1250mm × 250mm
10% Scale500mm × 100mm

To determine the appropriate canvas size for a smaller scale, multiply your full-size dimensions by the chosen scale. Here are the necessary multipliers:

Scale Multipliers
ScaleMultiplier
50% (Half) Scale0.5
25% (Quarter) Scale0.25
10% Scale0.1

For instance, for a quarter-scale design, if the full-size width is 5000mm, you would calculate:

5000mm×0.25=1250mm5000mm \times 0.25 = 1250mm

Using these guidelines will ensure your files are manageable and compatible with our proofing process, leading to a smoother and more efficient production experience.
