CAD Cutting

CAD cutting is a precision finishing process used to cut printed graphics to exact shapes and sizes with a high level of accuracy. At Wallace Print, CAD cutting allows us to transform flat printed sheets and roll-fed graphics into finished, production-ready items that are cleanly cut, repeatable and ready for use. This process supports everything from shaped signage and point of sale units to bespoke display components and engineered graphic elements.

Using digitally controlled cutting systems, CAD cutting enables complex outlines, smooth curves and detailed shapes that cannot be achieved with manual trimming. It is a core part of large format finishing and allows creative designs to be realised accurately while maintaining consistency across short runs and larger production volumes.

Precision Cutting for Printed Sheets

Our sheet-fed CAD cutting capability is delivered using a combination of specialist cutting tables, including Aristo, Kongsberg and Q-Cut systems. Each machine is selected based on the material type, thickness and complexity of the job, allowing us to achieve clean, accurate cuts and precise creasing where required.

These systems are well suited to materials such as Correx, Foamex, display board and cardboard engineering boards. CAD cutting at this level is particularly effective for shaped signage, point of sale units and display components where dimensional accuracy and repeatability are critical to the final presentation.

Print and Cut for Shaped Graphics

For contour cutting printed graphics, we use Graphtec plotter cutters equipped with camera-based alignment technology. This allows us to print graphics first and then cut them accurately by reading registration marks, ensuring the cut line follows the printed shape precisely.

This print-and-cut workflow is commonly used for logos, decals, stickers, window graphics and shaped branding elements where colour print and cut accuracy must align perfectly. It provides consistent results without the need for physical cutting tools and is ideal for repeatable production.

Supporting Point of Sale and Display Projects

CAD cutting plays a key role in producing point of sale items such as standees, twist-lock units, free-standing displays and shaped header panels. By combining large format print with precise cutting and creasing, we can manufacture lightweight yet durable display items that assemble cleanly and present professionally.

Because the process is digital, prototypes and test pieces can be produced efficiently. This allows structures and layouts to be reviewed and refined before full production, helping ensure the finished product performs as intended in retail and exhibition environments.

Large Format Capability Across Sheets and Rolls

Our CAD cutting setup supports both rigid sheets and roll-fed graphics. Sheet materials are cut to shape with clean edges and accurate creases, while printed rolls can be contour cut for shaped applications. Wider roll-fed graphics are typically handled using Summa and Graphtec plotter cutters, depending on the material and level of detail required.

This flexibility allows us to handle everything from simple-shaped panels through to complex, multi-component builds that demand consistency across every piece.
