Hems & Eyelets
If your design requires hems and eyelets, it’s essential to leave an inner margin of 60mm around the perimeter of your design. This space accommodates the weld of the hem and eyelets, ensuring no important content (like text or logos) is affected, and should only contain background images and colours.
Our standard eyelet placement includes one in each corner and one every metre along the edges. If you need a custom distribution or specific positioning for the eyelets, please inform us as this can be arranged at no extra cost.
To indicate where you want eyelets placed, you can use our eyelet mark from the Illustrator files below. The center of the mark should be 34mm from the edge of the design canvas. Alternatively, if you prefer to use your own marks, please use a light-colored circle with a border contrasting the background. The circle should be 8mm in diameter (when scaled to full size), with the center 34mm from the edge of the design canvas.
Trimmed to Size
For designs that need to be trimmed to size, ensure the artwork is proportionally correct, includes a 5mm bleed, and has crop marks indicating where the cut should start.
Pole Pockets
Pole pocket confusion often arises from misunderstandings whether the pockets are added to the overall banner size. We create pockets inclusive of the overall size, requiring an internal pocket allowance area. This area varies with the pole diameter used to support the banner and should be free of important content.
Here are the allowance values for popular pole diameters:
Pole Diameter | Pocket Allowance Area (scaled to full size) |
---|
25mm | 92.5mm |
30mm | 105mm |
35mm | 117.5mm |
40mm | 130mm |
45mm | 142.5mm |
50mm | 155mm |
55mm | 167.5mm |
60mm (Scaffolding) | 180mm |
65mm | 192.5mm |
70mm | 205mm |
To calculate the pocket allowance area for other diameters, use this formula:
Pole Diameter×2.5+30mm\text{Pole Diameter} \times 2.5 + 30mmPole Diameter×2.5+30mm
This calculation includes extra space for ‘wiggle room’ and the weld.
Double-Sided Prints
For double-sided prints, your artwork should include at least 10mm bleed (scaled to full size) to account for slight movements during the printing process. Ensure the crop mark offset is sufficient to prevent overlap with the bleed, avoiding visible crop marks in the final product. Additionally, keep important content well within the finished size to prevent clipping due to print movement.
Shape & Contour Cut
For shape-cut artwork, include a clearly visible cut path. Text should be outlined, and images embedded in the file. Each cut path must:
- Be a vector (one continuous path)
- Be a stroke
- Overlay the design (not on a separate file/page/canvas)
- Be a contrasting color to the design
We process the path for cutting machines only – it will not be printed or visible on the final product. Note that intricate cuts may lose accuracy on thicker materials like Foamex board.
