UV Flat Bed Digital Printing
UV flat bed digital printing provides one of the most durable and versatile methods for producing large format graphics. The process uses UV inks that cure instantly under intense ultraviolet light. This creates a strong bond to the material surface and results in a long lasting, colour stable finish suitable for both indoor and outdoor environments. At Wallace Print, our UV flat bed technology allows us to print directly onto almost any rigid substrate with exceptional clarity and consistent quality.
Direct to Media Printing for a Wide Range of Applications
Our UV flat bed printers handle rigid sheets up to 4m x 2m, across signage, construction and exhibition work. This enables us to print directly onto Foamex, Correx, ACM Panels, Acrylic, display board, foam board, PVC board and many other materials. Because the ink cures immediately on the surface, the finished graphic is resistant to scratching, moisture and UV exposure.
Direct to media printing removes the need for mounting vinyl to rigid panels. This eliminates risks such as trapped air, adhesive failure or long term delamination and provides a clean, professional result that is consistent across the entire sheet.
Advanced Flat Bed Technology for Precision Output
Our production facility is equipped with an Anapurna, a SwissQ Impala and LIYU UK flat bed printers. Each machine offers high accuracy, fine image detail and reliable ink delivery. The combination of these systems gives us the flexibility to manage everything from short one off panels to high volume production runs while maintaining colour stability and print uniformity.
This mix of technologies provides strength in both speed and quality meaning we can match the right machine to the right project and achieve consistent professional results every time.
Durability and Colour Stability Through UV Curing
UV cured inks form a robust surface that performs exceptionally well outdoors. The finish is resistant to weathering, abrasion and fading which makes it ideal for external signage, hoarding panels, site boards and public facing graphics. Internally the method provides crisp detail and smooth gradients suitable for close viewing.
Because the inks cure instantly there is no drying time. Prints can move directly into cutting or finishing which allows for efficient production and dependable turnaround times.

Frequently asked questions
What makes UV flat bed printing different from other large format print methods?
UV flat bed printing cures the ink instantly as it lands on the material. This creates a solid, durable ink film that bonds directly to the surface which removes issues associated with solvent drying or mounting films. The print becomes stable immediately which improves production speed and provides a finish suitable for demanding environments, including long term external use.
Which materials are most suitable for UV flat bed printing?
UV flat beds can print onto a wide range of rigid substrates including Foamex, Correx, Dibond, Acrylic, display board, foam centred board and PVC board. The technology works well on both smooth and lightly textured surfaces. Material choice depends on the application, whether that is external signage, interior branding, point of sale, exhibition graphics or decorative panels.
Can you print onto coloured or transparent materials?
Yes. UV flat beds support white ink which allows us to print onto clear, tinted or dark surfaces without colour being lost. White ink can be used as a base layer to improve opacity or as a selective layer within the artwork to create controlled visual effects. This is particularly effective for acrylic panels, illuminated displays and internal decorative features.
What sheet size can be printed on your flat bed machines?
Our Anapurna, SwissQ Impala and LIYU UK flat beds can print onto rigid sheets up to two thousand four hundred and forty millimetres by one thousand two hundred and twenty millimetres which corresponds to a standard eight by four foot panel. Larger installations are produced using multiple panels with precise alignment so they appear seamless once fitted.
Is UV flat bed printing suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. UV cured inks are highly resistant to fading, moisture and general weather exposure. The curing process forms a robust and stable surface meaning the prints perform well in external environments such as construction sites, building fascias, hoardings, directional signage and long term outdoor branding.
What level of detail and image quality can UV flat beds achieve?
Modern flat bed printers deliver excellent resolution and controlled ink laydown which means fine detail, clean lines and smooth gradients are reproduced accurately. This level of quality is suitable for both close viewing displays and long distance signage. The combination of high resolution print heads and stable curing allows for consistent sharpness across the entire sheet.
Do you offer UV roll fed printing as part of your production?
Yes. Our UV flat bed systems can also operate in roll fed mode up to two thousand five hundred millimetres wide. This allows us to print high quality UV graphics onto flexible materials such as vinyls, window films and banner PVC. It is particularly useful when external durability and colour stability are required on roll based substrates.
Do you provide installation for UV printed panels?
Yes. Our installation teams work throughout the United Kingdom and are experienced in fitting rigid panels, signage, internal displays and external graphics. All installations follow the material requirements to ensure accuracy, stability and long term performance.
