Key Milestones in Wallace Print’s Sustainability Journey

2017: Transitioning to Digital and Embracing Sustainable Transportation

The year 2017 marked a pivotal shift for Wallace Print as we transitioned from Litho printing to a fully digital business model. This transformation significantly reduced our energy consumption and cut down on waste by eliminating outdated materials, such as inks and rags. Alongside this shift, we introduced hybrid vehicles, starting with BMW models, into our transport fleet, further enhancing our eco-friendly initiatives. Today, our fleet includes both hybrid and fully electric vehicles, with only a few diesel vehicles remaining. This early commitment laid the foundation for a more sustainable and energy-efficient operation.

2018: Advancing Sustainable Materials with PVC-Free Options and Triaprint®

In 2018, we took a decisive step forward by replacing traditional PVC materials with PVC-free banner alternatives. These materials allowed us to produce high-quality prints while reducing plastic waste, setting a new standard for environmental responsibility within the print industry. We also adopted Triaprint®, an innovative material composed of recyclable polypropylene, featuring a rigid yet lightweight structure suitable for applications ranging from point-of-sale displays to durable outdoor signage. Triaprint® is fully compatible with digital and screen printing, offering clients an eco-friendly solution without compromising quality or versatility.

2019: Broadening PVC-Free Print Options

By 2019, Wallace Print was ready to expand its commitment to sustainability even further. We introduced a broad selection of PVC-free materials, including textiles made from recycled plastic bottles, PET, and PP banners, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. As one of the first companies in Europe to offer biodegradable print media, we created eco-conscious display options that catered to the evolving needs of our clients. Our range of PVC-free display materials, wall and backdrop graphics, and self-adhesive vinyls provided clients with sustainable alternatives that preserved quality while helping reduce environmental impact.

2020-2021: Navigating the COVID-19 Pandemic with Resilience and Adaptation

The COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges to businesses worldwide, and Wallace Print was no exception. In response to the rapidly changing environment and disruptions in demand, we made critical pivots to ensure the survival and continuity of our business. The pandemic forced us to re-evaluate our operations and identify new avenues to support our clients, especially those adjusting to the new norms of social distancing and heightened hygiene standards.

During this period, we adapted our services to meet urgent needs, including producing signage for health and safety messaging, floor graphics to aid social distancing, and protective screens for businesses reopening under new guidelines. This swift shift not only helped us survive the economic downturn but also allowed us to support our clients in remaining compliant and safe. The resilience we displayed during this period underscored our adaptability and commitment to meeting client needs, even in the most challenging circumstances. As we emerged from this period, our team and infrastructure were stronger and more prepared for future challenges, and we remained dedicated to our sustainability goals.

2022: Boosting Sustainability with a Biffa Partnership, Solar Power, and PVC-Free Lamination

In 2022, Wallace Print made significant strides in sustainability. We partnered with Biffa, a leading UK waste management company, to implement ‘dry mixed recycling’, substantially increasing our recycling rates and reducing landfill waste. The installation of solar panels at our facility was another game-changer. These panels now power everything from our advanced printing equipment to our studio facilities, including the office kettle! This shift to renewable energy has dramatically reduced our carbon footprint and is one of the most visible demonstrations of our commitment to sustainability.

Additionally, we expanded our product offerings with eco-friendly laminating films, designed to enhance the longevity of our prints while maintaining a low environmental impact. These PVC-free films protect our graphics and other printed materials without the need for traditional, less sustainable options. This innovation allows our clients to produce lasting, vibrant displays with the confidence that they’re contributing to a greener future.

2023: Expanding Our Range of Sustainable Materials

Entering 2023, our commitment to sustainability remained resolute. We focused on expanding our offerings of recyclable and PVC-free materials to meet the diverse needs of our clients and further reduce environmental impact. Our continuously growing range of sustainable materials includes advanced recyclable options, compostable films, and even cellulose-based substrates. Each addition to our product line is a step toward a more sustainable future, solidifying Wallace Print as a leader in eco-friendly print solutions.
